FAQ

Questions, answered.

What greenhouse growers, IPM consultants, and integration partners actually ask before booking a demo.

Product

  • How much area does one Croptimus camera cover?

Each Croptimus™ camera covers 400 m². Exact placement depends on zone layout, ceiling height, and obstacles (lighting rails, climate screens). We map the facility before install so coverage is even and no high-risk zones are left blind.

  • What pests and diseases does Croptimus detect?

Live today: aphids, spider mites, thrips, whitefly, powdery mildew, botrytis, mosaic virus, nutrient deficiencies, general plant-health drift, and pest or mechanical damage.

In active development: Hop Latent Viroid (HLVd) for cannabis, and ToBRFV for tomatoes.

We add new classes by collecting labelled imagery in controlled chambers and partner facilities – see Innovation for the current R&D pipeline.

Install & onboarding

  • Do I need a power outlet for each camera?

No. Cameras run on PoE over a single CAT 6 ethernet cable – one run from the network switch delivers both power and data. No extra outlets, no electrical contracting per camera.

  • How long does install take?

Most facilities are up and running within hours. No production suspension – cabling and camera mounting happens while normal greenhouse operations continue.

  • What can I expect after install?

A 2–3 week calibration period while detection thresholds tune to your facility’s lighting, crop variety, and scouting cadence. During calibration we meet with your head grower and IPM lead to set the right alerting rules – too sensitive wastes staff hours, too loose misses early outbreaks. Automated alerts begin once calibration concludes.

Data & security

  • How is my data stored?

Images are processed locally on edge hardware at your facility, then transmitted to your dedicated Virtual Private Cloud on AWS via encrypted connection. Your data is yours – no shared tenancy, no cross-customer model training.

Pricing

  • How much does Croptimus cost?

Custom pricing based on facility size and camera count. As a rule of thumb, Croptimus runs as a small percentage of crop revenue and pays back within the first season – typical greenhouse customers see ROI inside year one through reduced scouting hours and earlier outbreak intervention.

  • What does the camera hardware cost?

Recommended Hikvision cameras at €450 each. Fermata can supply the hardware or you can purchase directly – we provide the model numbers and mounting spec either way.

Contracts

  • Is there a minimum contract term?

Standard term is 1 year, but you can cancel with 30 days’ notice at no cost at any point. We don’t lock growers into multi-year commitments – the product should earn its renewal each season.
